University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM) students will again learn about careers in public service as part of an informational tour of Sarasota County's government offices this week.

The event, called "County Career Connections," is set for Wednesday, July 13, and follows a similar session three weeks ago in which 15 USFSM students traveled to downtown Bradenton for a behind-the-scenes tour of Manatee County's administrative offices and judicial center.

Students will mingle with department heads and listen to presentations about careers in public service. They're expected to hear from Assistant County Administrator Steve Botelho, Human Resources Director Joanie Whitley, and Director of Economic Development, and USFSM MBA alumnus, Jeff Maultsby, among others.

The students also will attend a county commission meeting and hear from experts about county planning, information technology and other fields and career options in public service.

The all-day tour is supported by Enterprise Holding Foundation and is intended to show students of all levels and majors the career and internship opportunities available at local government.

"Sarasota County Government is excited about the opportunity to partner with USF Sarasota-Manatee in providing students with an introduction to public service and opportunities with county government," said County Administrator Tom Harmer. "We look forward to continuing to grow our collaboration with USF, as we explore potential recruiting and internships in key areas of service."

USFSM is committed to working with local employers like Sarasota County to identify meaningful careers for graduates.

"This is an excellent opportunity for our students to see first-hand the employment options available in public service," said Dr. Sandra Stone, USFSM regional chancellor. "In many cases, these are impactful career options and we are grateful that our students will be given the chance to learn more about them.
