On December 13-26, 2014, open classes for public high school students from two municipalities in Adjara (Khulo, Shuakhevi) and Batumi.

The aim of the classes was to provide youth in the region with information on the concept of integrated solid waste management and 4Rs principles, and initiate an open discussion on the issues. Topics of discussion included integrated waste management fundamentals, waste classification, waste reduction, secondary use, recycling and recovery examples.

Students were mainly interested in environmental protection issues and expressed interest in participating in public awareness activities, future youth oriented projects, and other ways to cooperate with the program.

The idea to develop Eco Clubs to educate the public on environmental and integrated waste management issues was proposed during the classes.

Similar open classes will be held in 2015, and will cover public schools in the abovementioned municipalities and the remaining regions of Adjara.
