The National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) is the nation’s premier organization dedicated to advancing leadership in local, state, and federal government. For more than 40 years, NFBPA has prepared public administrators to meet today’s challenges through professional development, mentoring, networking, and nationally recognized leadership programs. In alignment with ICMA’s mission to strengthen local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics, the NFBPA–ICMA partnership continues to equip today’s leaders with the skills and vision needed to build stronger, more equitable communities.
Throughout the history of the relationship, ICMA and NFBPA have participated in each other’s conferences by holding special events, taking part in the exhibit hall, and sharing best practices through panel presentations. Additionally, both organizations have collaborated on meaningful professional development initiatives highlighting shared values of accountability, leadership, and integrity.
ICMA members value professional growth, networking, and excellence in public service. Joining NFBPA extends these opportunities through a relationship spanning over four decades. Dual membership delivers the NFBPA advantage: career growth, leadership development, and community connection that complement ICMA’s offerings. Members strengthen their credentials, broaden their networks, and participate in programs addressing local government challenges.
“Dual membership amplifies opportunities for leadership, credentialing, and collaboration.” — Kenneth Williams, former ICMA Board member (2021-2024) and city manager of Beaumont, Texas
