Deputy Director of Environmental & Street Services

Lead one of North Carolina's newest and most impactful municipal service organizations.
The City of Durham is seeking an experienced operational leader to help guide the Environmental & Street Services Department during an exciting period of organizational growth. Reporting directly to the Director, you'll help lead approximately 200 employees while overseeing essential public services including:
● Street maintenance and right-of-way operations
● Stormwater system maintenance
● Solid waste and recycling operations
● Emergency response and operational continuity
● Service delivery, performance improvement, and organizational development
This is more than an operations management position. As a member of the department's executive leadership team, you'll help build organizational culture, strengthen accountability, develop future leaders, and improve services that impact more than 300,000 Durham residents every day.
We're looking for someone with:
● Nine or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience
● Experience leading large, complex operational organizations
● Success managing multiple divisions, programs, or service areas
● Strong people leadership, communication, and organizational development skills
● Bachelor's degree in engineering, public administration, business, environmental management, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
