Public Works Director
City of Mountlake Terrace, WA
The Public Works Director is responsible for leading the public works department through demonstrated leadership, organizational development, strategic planning, communication, and technical skills. The department is comprised of the following service areas: water and sewer distribution operations and maintenance, stormwater management, streets operations and maintenance, fleet maintenance, engineering, and civil development review. The Director supervises the city engineer, three operations supervisors, and an administrative assistant. Maintenance employees are represented by Teamsters Local 763.
The Director is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and reports to the City Manager or their designee. The Director is expected to demonstrate and foster professionalism and collaborate within the public works department, across various city departments, and with other agencies and community members.
Qualifications:
- Six years of increasingly responsible experience managing or supervising operations, programs, and services in one or more public works specialty areas, and four years of staff supervisory, budgetary, and management responsibility, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment.
- BA degree in a related field. Graduate degree may substitute for one year of experience.
- Must pass a background investigation.
- Must have a valid Washington State driver's license (or be able to attain one) and have a driving record acceptable to the city's insurance carrier.
- Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
