Utilities Foreman

Great opportunity. Looking for the next step in your career? The Town of Milford is seeking a full-time (40 hr/wk) Utilities Foreman for our Water Utilities Department (WUD). The successful candidate must be able to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled functions in the operation & maintenance of Water and Collections Department equipment.
DUTIES:
Coordinates, supervises and performs all aspects of activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater collection system and Water Department, including construction, maintenance and repair of lines, services and extensions. Recommends procedures and schedules for the operation and maintenance of collection system and water system. Trains assistant personnel in the operation and maintenance of collection system and related equipment following established procedures. Monitors, maintains and troubleshoots machinery and equipment used to control the water treatment process; repairs equipment as needed. Formulates decisions, makes comprehensive recommendations, and enforces Town policies. Taps and installs new service connections. Installs short sewer and water main extensions. Installs new manhole structures. Repairs broken sewer lines and manhole structures, builds inverts, raises manhole frames, and performs masonry work. Responds to complaints regarding water and sewer calls; i.e., slow draining or plugged lines. Corrects problem following established procedures. REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to communicate effectively and deal with general public. Must be dependable, responsible and conscientious. Knowledge of traffic control techniques. Thorough working knowledge of the methods, materials, and techniques used in the installation, maintenance and repair of wastewater collection systems. Ability to operate transit and level to determine slope of line, with the ability to take complete and accurate field notes. Sufficient drafting skills to complete drawings of service lines and the ability to update main line drawings. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards associated with the water and wastewater collection system and wastewater treatment facility, and the ability to observe and enforce appropriate safety precautions to be taken while performing duties.
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid NH Class B License, preferred but not required
• 4 – 10 yrs experience
• Must be able to operate Supervisory Control and Data Automation (SCADA) System.
• Requires the ability to understand the basic physical, chemical, and biological principles of wastewater treatment.
• If Certified – Requires two plus years of experience in mechanical or trades work or any equivalent combination of
education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• If not Certified – Requires one year of experience in mechanical or trades work or any equivalent combination of education
and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Candidate must receive certification within 18 mos of hire – NH Grade I and Grade II Wastewater Treatment Certification.
