Job Description

The City of Escondido has a rich agricultural history and is the heart of North County San Diego. The “City of Choice” is home to 153,000 residents who enjoy an outstanding quality of life. This full-service city is supported by 928 FTEs and a FY 2020-21 operating budget of $204.6 million.

The ideal candidate is a public executive with demonstrated leadership and values grounded in transparency, ethics, and integrity. A forward-thinking visionary leader, he/she will be passionate about the community’s well-being and will advance strategic economic development to ensure the city’s long-term financial stability. Someone who treats all Council and community members fairly, keeps Councilmembers informed, and helps shape and advance a common vision for the City is critical. Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and experience as a City Manager, Assistant/ Deputy, or equivalent in comparable communities is required. Service in diverse communities highly desirable. Master’s degree preferred.

Salary is competitive, dependent on qualifications and experience, and supplemented by an attractive benefits package.
