The WMTR program will issue grants to local recipients such as recycling companies and community-based organizations (CBOs) in support of the program objectives to promote technological advancement in the areas of solid waste management and recycling.   It is envisioned that grants will support activities including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstration programs on critical recovery/recycling initiatives and energy efficiency improvements related to climate effects
  • Pilot program initiatives to modernize integrated solid waste management systems (ISWM) and recycling
  • Municipal or community-based composting initiatives, including both mixed waste and source-separated organics
  • Pilot composting and awareness-raising activities for schools
  • Upgrades to recycling companies, including improved facility equipment, technical skills trainings, energy-efficient and GHG mitigation technologies, and equipment for public source separation programs and composting

The program will also provide grants to fund CBOs and schools so that they can implement waste management and recycling campaigns and activities. Grants will be announced on the website and in local media outlets along with applications, instructions and selection criteria.  These grants will ensure local ownership and sustainability of program results.  For more information, please contact wmtr@icma.org
