Santa Rosa, CA initiated a plan to remove 6,000 of the city's 15,000 streetlights. An additional 3,000 will be placed on a timer that shuts lights off from midnight to 5:30 a.m. The reason for implementing this unusual plan is two-fold: to reduce the city's Green House Gas emissions and to save money by spending less on electricity.
