The City of Punta Gorda, FL was hit by hurricane Charley in the summer of 2004. It damaged nearly all parts of the city, with nearly every structure receiving some damage. After months of work the city was not satisfied with the progress of rebuilding, and they implemented partnerships to create leaders in reconstruction. The government functioned as a catalyst for businesses to rebuild, rather than taking a direct government-led approach.
Several programs have resulted from the plan, each with their own sets of partnerships and responsibilities. Millions of dollars have been invested resulting in massive restorations across Punta Gorda and man local counties and municipalities.
