The Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office was struggling to find a way to more efficiently train their volunteer poll workers. There are laws in place requiring time-consuming, mandatory training for poll workers, and SOE staff was spread thin. The SOE Office sought out existing online training software to use, but the for-profit software packages were far too expensive, and the free “open source” packages were insufficient. SOE partnered with the Alachua County Information & Telecom Services Department to create an online training solution that perfectly fit SOE’s needs. The training software written allowed for multiple courses and tests, broken out in chapters, with randomized questions & other security features. The SOE office was able to reduce training hours dramatically, and can analyze the test results to better tailor their trainings.
