For nearly a century, residents of Middletown and surronding areas had their major health care needs met by the Middletown Regional Hospital in the center of the city.  In 2007 the hospital moved to the city's outer edge, built an entirely new campus, and became Atrium Medical Center.  The massive investment--$195 million for the hosptial alone and $300 million for the overall campus--brought significant growth to the area and triggered a demand for more local health care workers in myriad fields and specialities.

Greentree Health Science Academy received the 2013 ICMA Program Excellence Award in the area of Community Partnership for populations 10,000-49,999 as part of the ICMA Annual Awards Program.
