There is considerable awareness among local government managers that accommodating sprawl with the requisite provision of infrastructure and adequate levels of service can be costly. However, there is debate regarding whether growth in fact pays for itself. This session highlighted how determining the impact of various land uses on revenues, capital costs, and operating expenses is necessary to a successful financial plan. Showcased how communities with growth-related funding problems have offset the costs of new development.
