Presentation submittal for the 2013 Transforming Local Government Conference. Describes the Community Engagement Initiative implemented in 2009 by the City of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. After experiencing significant demographic change over the last two decades, the city was a community of communities of people of different backgrounds living near one another but not with each other. As a result, the city embarked upon a Community Engagement Initiative where a community-wide strategic planning process was designed to engage residents in achieving social control, developing shared expectations of action and establishing a working trust amongst the diverse community.
