This is the 2010 nomination of Windsor Heights, Iowa, West Des Moines, Iowa, Urbandale, Iowa, Johnston, Iowa, Clive, Iowa, Waukee, Iowa, Grimes, Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa, and Pleasant Hill, Iowa's Joint Salt Storage Facility for the Community Partnership Award. City Managers Jeff Pomeranz, A.J. Johnson, Dennis Henderson, Jeff Koistra, Rick Clark, and Don Sandor, along with City Administrators Marketa George Oliver, Jim Sanders, and Kelly Brown are credited with aiding in the development of this program to counter the rising costs of rock salt. This storage facility ensures that these nine cities will have access to salt when it is needed to deal with winter storms and at a lower cost. In the first year of operation, this facility saved the cities $176,000 and in the second year saved $282,000.
