The North American Vexillological Association and designer Roman Mars have called out Pocatello, Idaho, for having one of the world's worst city flag designs.

Now, the world has responded.

Answering the criticism highlighted in an entertaining Ted Talk, the city launched a contest to find a new flag, and that campaign was featured on CBS Sunday Morning.

Pocatello's Flag Design Ad-Hoc Committee reported earlier this month that it has received more than 700 entries from countries as far away as Brazil, Indonesia, Serbia, and Sweden. The majority of the entries came from Idaho and the United States.

The designs will be reviewed by a panel of experts and then presented for public input before the city council adopts one, the committee reported.

ICMA's first blog about this appeared on September 9. It pointed out that Mars believes flag design is an indicator for overall city design.
