Celebrate the value of public service! If you look around your community, you’ll find people using their talents each day to improve our quality of life. Some are in very public roles—like police officers or teachers. Others keep the roads maintained, collect recycling, and beautify our parks and public spaces. In honor of public service, we’re recognizing community heroes who work with professional city, town, and county managers exemplifying what Life, Well Run is all about.

We look at Prince William County, Virginia. As part of the larger Washington D.C. metropolitan area, Prince William County is served by a staff of nearly 5,000 hardworking individuals. When she retired in January 2016, former County Executive Melissa Peacor’s impressive resume included the introduction of performance measurement and strategic planning, and public safety initiatives such as the county’s first Drug Court. She also helped the county achieve its first AAA bond rating.

Life, Well Run asked Melissa Peacor to help us shine a spotlight on two dedicated Prince William County community heroes. We’ll explore one individual today and the second tomorrow (stay tuned!).

“Working here and living here, I know that I am providing safety for the employees and residents of Prince William County.”
– Jeff Loeffler, Code Compliance Investigator, Prince William County, VA

Jeff Loeffler found a passion for construction at a young age, after spending his summer vacations working on projects with his grandfather. In today’s community hero video, Jeff Loeffler talks about the detailed research that code compliance investigators handle, and what it means to work for and serve the community he calls home.

Public Service Recognition Week is organized annually by the Public Employees Roundtable (PER) and its member organizations to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees.
