The ICMA Executive Board has formally accepted the retirement of Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Marc Ott. After serving as CEO and Executive Director for nearly eight years, Marc is retiring to spend more time with family and pursue other interests that he’s passionate about.
“While I could have remained city manager in Austin, Texas, I ultimately saw the opportunity to serve our members and profession as CEO/Executive Director of ICMA as a way of giving back to a profession that has given me so much. It has truly been an honor and experience I will always cherish,” Marc said.
Marc’s leadership helped advance professional local government worldwide and his commitment to values, ethical management, leadership, global engagement, and community betterment leaves an indelible mark on ICMA. Under his guidance, ICMA has seen remarkable growth and progress during an extraordinary period that included successfully leading and serving our members through the global pandemic. His tireless efforts have elevated ICMA’s mission. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for his service.
The ICMA Executive Board will promptly begin a search for a new CEO/Executive Director. We will seek a leader who also embodies the values cherished by ICMA members and set forth in our Code of Ethics, and who shares our commitment to building and strengthening communities, our counties, cities, and towns through professional management.
Because we remain committed to serving you, our valued members, we will be developing an opportunity for your input early in the CEO/Executive Director search process. Your involvement is crucial as we shape ICMA’s future.
Thank you for your unwavering support. Together, we’ll continue to advance local government excellence worldwide. Stay tuned for further updates.
