Downtown Kansas City is growing and thriving, and now the City offers another way for residents and visitors to get from point A to point B. Zipcar, a car-sharing network, is bringing eight vehicles to four locations from the River Market to Union Station.

Zipcars can be reserved by the hour or by the day and are parked in designated spots for pick-up and drop-off. The cars can be accessed in minutes by downloading the Zipcar app (iPhoneAndroid) and signing up.

Residents will find Zipcars at four locations with two Zipcars each at 3rd and Delaware, 14th and Baltimore, 19th and Main, and Pershing Road and Main Street. The downtown fleet features a variety of makes and models with KC-specific names, including a Subaru Crosstrek named “Royal,” a Nissan Versa dubbed “Scout” and a Jeep Renegade called “Chief”. Each reservation includes gas, insurance and 180 miles of driving per day.

Zipcar’s expansion strengthens Kansas City’s efforts to add transit options and to make downtown easier to traverse for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. It also builds on successful programs at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and at KCI airport.

Local businesses in Kansas City can benefit from Zipcar’s presence through the Zipcar for Business (Z4B) program that offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday. The Z4B program helps businesses save money, meet environmental goals and reduce parking requirements by providing employees with access to Zipcar.
