“Add to Your Leadership Toolkit” was the topic of a Women Leading Government Roundtable Luncheon hosted by the City of Paramount, California, on August 17, 2015. Over 80 people attended the luncheon, enjoying networking with colleagues, meeting new friends, and hearing a dynamic panel. Paramount City Manager Linda Benedetti-Leal welcomed the group into a beautiful community meeting room space with wood paneling on the walls, flowers on the tables, and a delicious luncheon served.

In “The View” style, Carol Jacobs, Chair of Women Leading Government and interim assistant city manager of Newport Beach, California, moderated.  The panel of leaders was comprised of Maria Hurtado, assistant city manager, Oxnard, California; Terri Cassidy, deputy city manager/human resources director, Newport Beach, California; and Cathy Standiford, former city manager and now Partner with Management Partners, local government consulting firm. The audience asked a variety of questions ranging from leading with command presence, knowing when you’re ready for a department head position, what you can learn from mentors, and tips for being a highly effective manager and leader.

Several WLG board members were in attendance including Sharon Landers, Terri Marsh, Sarona Vivanco, and Jan Perkins, in addition to panelists Maria Hurtado and Carol Jacobs, who also serve on the board.
