The City of West Hollywood, CA recently debuted InfoMap, an online interactive map that makes it easier for residents to find information about construction and permitting projects that are planned or underway across the City.

"We have spent lots of time listening to feedback, and we're launching a new tool to help residents find information about development projects that are happening in the City. It is part of our new campaign to use new and innovative technology to make government information easily accessible and improve our communication with the public,” says Stephanie DeWolfe, the City’s Community Development Director.

“Recent breakthroughs in technology, digital and social media, mobile computing, and the Internet have increased and facilitated communication and collaboration between City government and residents, businesses, and organizations,” says Francisco Contreras, the City’s Innovations Liaison. “The City recognizes that innovation and technology are critical elements of a citywide infrastructure that enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of communication and service delivery by the City to its residents. This map is one of many efforts that are currently underway to use new and innovative technology to improve our outreach efforts and make government information more accessible to all users.”

The InfoMap allows users to click on a project, read what is being proposed, find the status of the project, and send an email with comments directly to the project planner. The map displays all discretionary permit projects currently being processed by the City of West Hollywood Community Development Department. This includes minor projects, such as a facade remodels, as well as much larger development projects for new commercial or residential construction. Only those projects that have been assigned to a planner appear on this list. The maps will be updated on a monthly basis.

The map differentiates residential and commercial projects larger and smaller than 10,000-square feet, as well as billboard and tall wall applications. Details are also included as to whether a project is under review, approved, or permitted and under construction.
