The State and Local Legal Center (SLLC) has been busy during the U.S. Supreme Court's October 2011 term filing briefs, holding moot courts, offering webinars, giving presentations, and writing articles on behalf of ICMA and SLLC's other partners. Cases that can be considered a victory for local governments include National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius; Filarsky v. Delia; Armour v. Indianapolis; Messerschmidt v. Millender; Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians v. Patchak; and Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency. For an in-depth summary of each of these cases and other cases that impact local government that were heard during the 2011 Supreme Court session, visit the SLLC’s local government summary.
The Supreme Court has accepted numerous cases of interest to state and local governments and will take more as the 2012 term continues.
