Workshop participants

On October 3, 2014, a second workshop on municipal waste recycling was held in the Hotel “Chao” Adjara, Batumi. Participants included representatives from waste collection and recycling companies. They were welcomed by WMTR Chief of Party, Robert Bodo.

Kakha Rukhaia, team leader of WMTR’s second component, Private Sector-Led Recycling, began the workshop with a presentation on the draft of the law on waste management. He introduced participants to the regulations proposed in the draft and discussed possible regulatory challenges and opportunities.

Participants were then addressed by Tamaz Shavadze, Chairman of the Ajara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and Tamaz Turmanidze, Deputy Chairman of the ACCI.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants shared information about their current activities and expressed a continued interest in working with each other through the program.

The Waste Management Technologies in Regions (WMTR) program is supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) through its CityLinks program together with its local partner, CENN.
