ICMA’s Veterans Advisory Committee established the ICMA Veterans Recognition Award to honor high-performing veterans who have transitioned into local government roles and contributed significantly to their communities. 

We invite colleagues, supervisors, and community members to nominate veterans who have made a meaningful impact through leadership, innovation, mentorship, professional involvement, and service to their communities. This award celebrates the unique strengths and perspectives that veterans bring to local government and recognizes those who exemplify excellence in public service.

The nomination process is simple and focuses on what matters most: the nominee's contributions to their organization, community, and the local government profession. Help ICMA recognize deserving veterans whose dedication, leadership, and service continue to make a difference long after their military careers. Submit a nomination and help shine a spotlight on those who have served both their country and their community.

Nominations are due October 16 and the award winners will be announced by Veteran's Day 2026.
