Melissa Mundt, assistant city administrator, Gardner, Kansas, and 2011-2014 Mountain Plains regional vice president, has accepted a position in Ames, Iowa. The ICMA Constitution states: “If, during the first year in office, a regional vice president moves to an administrative position with a local government in another vice-presidential region, he or she will continue in office until the next annual conference of the association.” Iowa is in ICMA’s Midwest region. The Mountain Plains region includes: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

When there is a vacancy on the board, the ICMA Constitution states that “a majority of the remaining eligible voting members of the Executive Board shall appoint a Corporate Member to fill the vacancy.” The ICMA Executive Board is seeking qualified members to consider for this important position. (See information on board service.)

This is one of the five seats on the board designated for a non-CEO. Therefore, a candidate must be a Full Member from the Mountain Plains region serving in a non-CEO position. The term will begin at the October 7-10, 2012, ICMA Annual Conference in Phoenix and end at the 2014 annual conference. The new vice president will be invited to join other incoming board members for an orientation July 19-20, 2012, in Washington, D.C.

Eligible members in the region have received a communication about this opportunity. If you know of a colleague who should be considered for appointment, please encourage the member to apply. Interested members are asked to submit a resume along with a statement outlining their qualifications and views on issues facing ICMA. Submissions should be sent by May 25, 2012 to nominations@icma.org. President Gaston has also contacted state association and affiliate presidents to solicit their suggestions.
