Tanya Ange ICMA President-Elect

ICMA is pleased to announce the ICMA Executive Board’s selection of Tanya Ange (county administrator of Washington County, Oregon), as the 2023-2024 ICMA President-Elect. Ange emerged as the top candidate following extensive interviews during the ICMA Executive Board’s quarterly meeting held June 2-3 in McMinnville, Oregon. As president-elect, Ange will provide leadership in the transition to her term as president, which will commence during the 2024 ICMA Annual Conference in Pittsburgh/Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, September 21-25, 2024.

Upon assuming the role of president, Ange will lead the ICMA Executive Board in providing policy guidance to the association in its mission to advance professional local government and guide ICMA’s efforts in strengthening the effectiveness of local government globally. With more than two decades working in public service throughout the United States, Ange has demonstrated her ability to improve communities and enhance the quality of life for the people she serves.

“With a proven track record of exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to advancing local governance at both the municipal and county level in communities in ICMA’s Midwest, Mountain Plains, and West Coast regions, Tanya Ange brings unparalleled experience and expertise to lead ICMA and the Executive Board going forward,” said Jeff Towery, ICMA President (city manager, McMinnville, Oregon).

Throughout her career, Ange has been an active member of ICMA dedicated to sharing best practices and promoting excellence in local government management. Her deep understanding of the challenges faced by local government professionals at both the county and municipal levels positions her as an advocate for change and progress in the profession.

Ange served on the ICMA Executive Board as Midwest Regional Vice President, 2013-2016, where she was a member of the Audit, Finance, and Business Operations Committee. She furthered her commitment to ICMA and the association by serving as a member of ICMA’s 2013-2014 Task Force on Leadership, the 2022 Conference Planning Committee, and as a long-term member and chair of the Performance Management Committee.

Ange has served as the county administrator of Washington County, Oregon, since August 2020. She began her career in local government with the city of New Brighton, Minnesota, later serving the city of Mankato, Minnesota, in various leadership capacities, eventually rising to serve as deputy city manager/chief of staff. Prior to joining Washington County, she served as the deputy city manager of Boulder, Colorado.

"It is an honor and privilege to be selected as president-elect of ICMA," said Ange. “ICMA is more than just a professional organization to me. I am deeply connected to its values of leadership, management, ethics, equity, and inclusion and the pursuit of excellence in local government. I’m beyond excited to give back to this important institution, just as ICMA has supported me and thousands of my local government colleagues in delivering vital services to the communities we serve worldwide.”

Ange's collaborative leadership style and commitment to ethical leadership will be instrumental in guiding ICMA's strategic initiatives, strengthening partnerships with international organizations, and supporting the needs of ICMA members.

“We are delighted by the executive board’s selection of Tanya Ange as president-elect. Her vast experience, strategic mindset, and dedication to public service will enable ICMA to thrive in an ever-changing public landscape,” said Marc Ott, Executive Director/CEO.
