Town of East Hampton – CHIEF OF POLICE

The Town of East Hampton, approximately 20 miles southeast of Hartford, with a population of 13,000, approximately 36 square miles and a budget of approximately 2.6 million, is seeking an experienced Police Chief to lead its department of 17 sworn officers and 2 civilian employees. The Police Department delivers exceptional customer service which results in strong community support and cooperation.

Job Summary: Candidates should be familiar with contemporary police practices; have a strong community policing philosophy and command presence; a thorough knowledge of police administration; demonstrated open and honest communication with management and staff; and have proven management skills with a history of leading and developing subordinates. The ideal candidate will be visionary and forward thinking, sensitive to the needs of a suburban and rural community, and have experience with community service issues. The Chief should be actively involved in the various community work groups within town government and with regional collaborations and partnerships.

Qualifications and Experience: The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, a Master’s degree in relevant field is preferred; a completion of advanced management training, such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute Command Officer Development Course, or equivalent executive level training is preferred; CT POST certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable amount of time and 15 years of progressively responsible police experience with at least five years of supervisory experience with a command staff rank or higher. Experience or education may be substituted to meet requirements.

Residency: Must live or relocate, within a reasonable distance of East Hampton Connecticut, as negotiated.

Salary: $147,000 - $155,000 per annum & benefit package which includes health, dental, vision, 401(a), life insurance, paid holidays, etc.
