About the Fund: 40 Years of Impact, a Future of Leadership
For four decades, the ICMA Future of Professional Management Fund has served as the frontline defense for the council-manager form of government. Established in 1986, the Fund was created with a clear vision: to separate professional advocacy from general dues, ensuring a dedicated resource exists to promote ethical, nonpartisan leadership in our communities.
Why Your Support Matters Now
Professional management is under constant challenge. From shifting political climates to the need for greater transparency, the demand for stable, professional leadership has never been higher. In the past year alone, Fund-supported advocacy helped communities like Ithaca, NY; Blythewood, SC; and Hilliard, OH successfully adopt the council-manager plan. Meanwhile, we have worked tirelessly to help cities like Austin, TX and Sacramento, CA retain the professional management structures that keep their governments resilient and accountable.
These funds are not just for a milestone; they represent a renewed strategy to promote professional management before a challenge occurs.
