RE:      Two items for Detroit; one solicitation for feedback; two updates

1.    Detroit Logistics: Final location for Hospitality on Thursday night from 8:30-10:00pm is the Olympus room on the 8th floor.

There will be one final email tomorrow with background for the Friday session with Deborah Roberts.

2.    Midwest Vice Presidents Pose Questions on Task force on Organizational Structure and Governance Recommendations

Mike, Cheryl and Matt decided to have a conversation last week after they’d each had a chance to digest the agenda communication in the board book.  That conversation generated several questions that were sent to staff.  The first attachment provides responses to those questions (questions are underlined; responses in bold).  We thought it would be helpful to share this with all of you.

3.    Feedback on Nominating Committee Candidates – pls reply to President Darnell by Friday, November 13

The second attachment is the list of members who have volunteered to serve on the 2010 Nominating Committee.  Dave L  will chair the committee and represent the Midwest and Dave C will represent the West Coast.  Darnell would appreciate any recommendations you have for the selection of one member from each of the remaining U.S. regions.  He will propose three names for board approval by email ballot.

4.    President and Executive Director Travel to State Meetings

Later this week, you will receive an email with the November 2009 StateSide communication to state and affiliate officers and staff.  It includes information on Darnell’s and Bob’s state meeting travel plans to date. It also includes the division of state assignments for vice presidents in each region. States are encouraged to send you meeting notices.  There will be a follow-up email to you on travel to state/country meetings after the Detroit board meeting.  If you have questions on state travel, contact your Regional Team Leader or state liaison for assistance.

5.    ICMA Signs Agreement with Visible Strategies at Montréal Conference

ICMA signed an agreement with Visible Strategies, provider of a visually-engaging performance management and communications software and experts in sustainability. As part of the agreement, ICMA will receive complimentary use of their award-winning SEE-IT software.  Visible Strategies will also lend their 20+ years of experience guiding government leaders around the world on triple bottom-line management principles as a founding co-sponsor of the ICMA Center for Sustainability.

ICMA will use SEE-IT to graphically report progress on the implementation of the 2008 ICMA Strategic Plan and the Center for Sustainability.  There is also an option for use in the Center for Performance Measurement.

ICMA member communities can receive a 10% purchase discount off the cost of SEE-IT. In addition, ICMA will receive an annual referral fee for sales of SEE-IT using a special ICMA promo code.  The referral fee may become a revenue source to support the ICMA Center for Sustainability.  (To learn more about Visible Strategies and SEE-IT, please visit www.visiblestrategies.com. To receive a purchase discount, use the promo code ICMA-100-001.)  If you have questions, contact Wayne Sommer (wsommer@icma.org)
