ICMA initiates a review of an ICMA member’s conduct alleged to have violated the Code of Ethics when a valid complaint is filed.  The complaint must be in writing, clearly describe how the complainant believes the alleged misconduct may have violated the Code, and provide documentation supporting the allegation from the complainant’s perspective.  The entire review process is confidential, and a complainant can choose to either be named to the member as the individual filing the complaint or remain anonymous.

Upon ICMA staff’s review of the information, staff will acknowledge receipt of the complaint and contact the individual filing the complaint should there be any questions.
