The Town of Hampden, located along the beautiful Penobscot River and just south of Maine’s third largest city Bangor, is accepting applications for the position of Town Manager / Treasurer.

Hampden has been named to several lists of Top 10 communities in Maine to raise a family, including in DownEast magazine in 2014. The Town has preserved its rural character and protected its rural landscapes while accommodating well planned commercial and residential development. It has a population of 7,300 and has 53 full time staff and an annual budget, excluding schools, of $9.6 million dollars. The Town also maintains a public sewer and enterprise sewer fund.

The Town of Hampden operates under a Town Charter with a Town Manager and a 7 member Town Council elected for 3 year staggered terms. Annually, a Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected by the Council from its membership.

The Town is seeking a manager with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience, in either municipal or private business management. Required is a knowledge of and proven experience in areas of economic development/TIFs, finance and budgeting, labor relations/contract negotiating, human resources and policy management.

The candidate must be a visionary with demonstrated leadership, organizational and listening skills and have excellent written and oral communication ability to inspire and empower staff. They must be a leader with integrity, honesty, openness and humor and have the ability to creatively solve problems. The successful candidate will be required to become an active member of the community and be enthusiastic to its needs. Residency in Hampden is desired but is negotiable.

All applicants should possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration or a closely related field. Salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
