The City of Raleigh's Office of Sustainability is responsible for leading organization-wide sustainability efforts. This position will gather, review, analyze, audit, project manage and report on a variety of issues in support of policy and programs, including but not limited to sustainability issues, resiliency, social & racial equity, innovation, pilot projects, energy efficiency and renewable energy, communications, and education & outreach. By collecting and analyzing data, determining desired outcomes, and linking data to overarching priorities, City leaders can use sustainability principals to best align resources and administer services to benefit our community and its 450,000+ residents.
The Sustainability Analyst will play a critical role in the success of our sustainability efforts. We are seeking an individual who will bring their strong interpersonal, analytical, and critical thinking skills, along with their passion and persistence for excellence, to contribute to our efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Not intended to be all inclusive):
Conducts research on sustainability initiatives and other related topics including operational problems, trends, and areas for efficiency and improvement related to the data being developed and analyzed.
Provides technical support to all City of Raleigh departments regarding the City's sustainability initiatives.
Assist departments and other partners with understanding, development, analysis, and use of sustainability metrics, reporting into recommendations and action plans.
Assist with the development of data tracking opportunities and reporting.
Perform in-depth research and analysis, including the review of available datasets to analyze ways to enhance City operations and effectiveness.
Assist with project management, development and support for cross collaborative sustainability projects including resiliency project development, social & racial equity program development, innovation and pilot project development, department communications strategies, education & outreach, support for climate and energy action planning, and other projects as assigned.
Recommends programs and technologies that maximize environmental protection and resource conservation to minimize environmental liability and impact.
Assist with the development and delivery of a departmental communications strategy, including education and outreach to internal and external stakeholders. This may include classroom training related to sustainability strategic planning and related management techniques.
Perform a variety of complex, diverse, and advanced level professional and technical duties in support of the City's sustainability strategic planning efforts.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental sciences, public administration, public policy, data analytics, business administration, or closely related discipline. A master's degree in public administration, public policy, data analytics, business administration, or related field is desirable and may be substituted for experience.
Two years of experience in one of the following areas: sustainability, project management, data analytics, public policy, business or public administration. Applicants may substitute additional relevant education for the required experience. Strong project management skills desired.
Valid NC Driver's License with satisfactory driving record.
