SOCIAL SERVICES COUNSELOR I/ II+ (RC#¬¬¬¬¬¬¬900864)

To perform professional level duties in the diversion, probation, and home detention programs. This is a non-clinical position that provides services to individuals referred by the Tempe Municipal Court and East Valley Regional Veterans Court. Social Services Counselors in this workgroup conduct comprehensive assessments and refer participants to appropriate state-licensed treatment or education programs based on risk and need.
Counselors provide case management services to participants in the assigned programs and monitor progress in community-based treatment. Counselors communicate regularly with participants to assess level of engagement, community treatment providers to verify compliance, and court and prosecutor’s offices to provide updates on participant progress. Additionally, counselors consult and coordinate issues as appropriate with such entities as the City Attorney’s Office, municipal courts, superior court, police, probation departments, school officials, neighborhood representatives, public assistance workers, and other public and private agency officials to seek assistance and coordinate solutions to participant challenges.
Annual Salary Ranges:
Level I+: $53,502 - $72,227
Level II+: $59,406 - $79,712
This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study. This is a non-clinical position and an entry-level class in the Social Services Counselor series
Requires the equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in psychology, social work, educational psychology or a degree related to the core functions of this position.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
Two years of experience providing counseling services (i.e. assessment and case management) in area appropriate to position’s assignment.
Three years of full time experience providing counseling services (i.e. assessment and case management) in area appropriate to position’s assignment.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Possession of a Mental Health Professional Certificate by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
Successful completion of initial probationary period is contingent upon passing an FBI background investigation. Based on position, referred applicants may be subject to additional testing which may include pre-employment polygraph, physical and drug screening.
