Senior Systems Administrator

In this position, you will support the current application portfolio and manage existing COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) business applications and interfaces, including upgrading or replacing existing applications, implementing new applications, and documenting all support models necessary for providing enterprise quality application support. Following industry best practices, City strategy, City policies and procedures, you will also develop procedures, trouble-shoot and resolve Tier III issues, provide mentorship to application support staff, and perform solution/design work as required. You will also ensure that the application support strategy aligns with IT (Information Technology) standards, meets the City department business requirements, and results in a sustainable application portfolio.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
Participate in the development and execution of the strategy to rationalize and modernize the City's application portfolio, including modernizing and consolidating applications and using modern client-server, web, and/or enterprise-wide platforms and technologies
Provide day-to-day operational support for existing COTS applications; assist with implementing patches and fixes; perform data updates according to policies and procedures; write SQL (structured language query) queries to meet ad-hoc reporting needs
Ensure SLAs (service level agreements) are achieved for incidents and requests and that project commitments are met
Develop and promote standard ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) based processes, operating procedures, and the propagation and use of the knowledge management system; document current state architecture and incident and request models
Track, document, and manage all customer contact, status, and work performed in the correct ITSM (Information Technology Service Management) tool
Independently perform and provide mentorship or guidance when needed to the Jr. Application Support members and contractors in the Application Support group
Ensure actions support documented processes and procedures are met or exceed operational SLAs
Assign issue and request tickets to responsible individuals from the Application Support ticket queue
Maintain and support the implementation and upkeep (patches and cumulative updates) of the City's ITSM tool, including workflows, dashboards, reporting, and system and security administration
Provide as-built documentation for City COTS application systems and related interfaces
Provide Tier-III user and application system support
Act as the primary liaison with the vendor on support issues, upgrades, and the release of new application modules
Ensure proper IT system and data security is practiced at all times
Ensure actions support documented processes and procedures to meet or exceed operational SLAs with business partners
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:
Business and systems analysis skills, including requirements gathering, development of use cases, transitions to operations, and end user documentation and training; and identifying workflow
Industry best practices and standard operating procedures
Processes and technologies such as ITSM Tools (FootPrints, Cherwell, or Remedy), Microsoft Office 2010/2013/2016, Microsoft Windows 7/10, Microsoft SharePoint Administration, AD security and permissioning, SQL Server DB Administration and Data Structures, Internet Explorer/Google Chrome, and Microsoft Server 2008R2 – 2016
Web Server Technologies and configuration and maintenance: IIS 6.0 and higher and Apache Tomcat
Windows operating system and hardware
Basic administration of a server, including service packs and hot fixes
Networking, such as internet protocol and domain name systems
Debugging skills and techniques for each of these areas identified above
Federal, state, and local government
Ability to:
Handle difficult situations and customers
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Successful candidate will have:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Five years of full-time professional experience performing information systems programming and analysis
Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Ideal candidates will also have:
Two years of experience in COTS Software management and business analysis
Two years of experience in SQL Server administration and data management
Two years of experience in Microsoft SharePoint administration
Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to lift, move, and carry IT equipment up to 35 pounds between rooms, facilities, and vehicles.
