Public Communications Specialist II

In this position, you will provide assistance in the strategic development, implementation, and coordination of media relations, marketing, advertising, creative direction, special events, communications, and employee and citizen participation activities for the Airport (Colorado Springs Airport). You will also be responsible for overseeing social and digital media content and strategy.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
Analyze communication needs and develop strategic communication plans
Identify, research, and play a key role in the resolution of public issues
Research, design, develop, and implement creative and engaging communications, advertising, and marketing strategies, including planning, copy writing, media buying, image positioning, and design and production of final product
Develop, write, edit, and market Airport information to local, state, and national trade publications and broadcast media
Participate in shaping public opinion and perception; identify and create key communications plans and statements
Work with focus groups and task forces to offer strategies for conflict resolution, public participation, and communications
Coordinate logistics for a variety of special events, including venues, vendors, publicity, and communications
Assist in the development and implementation of public relations and marketing campaigns (online and print advertising, website and social media content, public education, and community outreach) to promote air service and other aeronautical and non-aeronautical services
Create print collateral for maps, brochures, posters, flyers, and events
Design and develop content for a monthly newsletter; design print and online ads; and organize projects for radio and television ads, and video productions for social platforms
Participate in public meetings; organize and participate in community events; and work with outside agencies
Research and report on industry trends; evaluate current and future marketing programs
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) rules and regulations
Knowledge of marketing theories, principles, and practices and their application to public communications
Knowledge of strategic communications planning, advertising, publications, and community relations procedures
Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
Knowledge of video production/editing programs
Ability to multi-task, function well under pressure, and meet various deadlines
Ability to create graphical displays, brochures, and media
Ability to take initiative and work efficiently with minimal supervision or direction
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Proficiency using Adobe software, including InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoShop
Successful candidate will have:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in communications, marketing, journalism, media relations, or any other field
Three years of full-time public relations, communications, digital content creation, or marketing experience
Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Ideal candidates will also have:
Experience using event planning and management software
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Experience using AdobePro, Adobe Creative Suite
Familiar with mobile applications and e-mail marketing software
Additional Information:
This position must be available for after-hour emergency communications and occasionally be oncall for 24 hour operation.

The selected candidate must pass (or have already passed) a fingerprint-based criminal history records check as required by the Transportation Security Administration.

The primary work environment is an office with some travel from site to site and possible exposure to inclement weather.
