Established as a Manager reporting directly to the City Manager's Office this individual will have a significant leadership role within our City structure. Like many communities, Charlottesville is growing and has affordability challenges. Our changing City presents challenges for our development review team. We need to remain productive in our endeavors, remain economically viable, build toward equity, while establishing a forward-thinking effort.

The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded professional with a master's degree in urban policy and/or planning, with significant prior experience overseeing large-scale and complex projects. Ideally our first Manager for Long Range Planning and Design will have an understanding of public and private sector design and development processes. That candidate will be an excellent communicator and consensus builder with the ability to navigate the intricacies of multiple projects while shepherding projects to completion. At least five (5) years of experience in a management or supervisory role and a Bachelor's degree are required. A Master's degree is favored. Individuals whose Degree is in the area of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or Urban Planning are strongly preferred.
