Deputy City Manager

Join the City of Berkeley’s executive leadership team as a Deputy City Manager (2 deputy positions) to assist in leading innovative local strategies to create a best in class city!

Reporting to the City Manager, each DCM will support a portfolio of city departments and provide overall operational management direction and leadership for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of city programs/projects/policies. The City of Berkeley, a full-service city, known for its actively engaged community and innovative programs has a population of 112,000, 1,320 employees and a $476 million operating budget.

The City is looking for two dynamic public sector leaders with extensive people and operations management experience. Each DCM will be a strategic, systems thinker and proactive problem solver. Candidates must be results focused and team players. Exceptional customer service skills, political astuteness, strong people skills and in-depth departmental operations knowledge are critical.

A Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration or a closely related field and eight years of progressively responsible executive management experience is required.
