Summary

Community Grants Program Manager

The City of Charlotte’s Housing & Neighborhood Services department is hiring for the position of Community Grants Program Manager within the Community Engagement division. This dynamic division is a recognized leader in the area of uplifting residents and youth to engage and achieve proactive community improvement through our model of inform, include, plan, support and celebrate community efforts.
This role oversees ongoing and special opportunity grants including Charlotte’s nationally recognized Neighborhood Matching Grants program which awards 60+ grants per year to leverage resident involvement, stimulate partnerships and build capacity while providing eligible neighborhood-based organizations funding capacity to accomplish self-determined priorities.

The position is part of the Neighborhood Resources team and reports to the Neighborhood & Community Partnerships Manager.

Job Responsibilities – Program management responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following. Various responsibilities will be supported by the Neighborhood Resource Specialist:

Grant Program Administration

 Administration of the NMG program and other grant opportunities to ensure compliance with established guidelines and procedures

 Regular interaction, idea development, capacity building and problem solving with neighborhood leadership, residents and peer departments and community agencies

 Collaboration and oversight of support staff including regular meetings to ensure quality control and excellent customer service

 Maintenance of program budget, guidelines, applications, presentations, marketing and training materials and reporting to ensure clarity, ease of use and goal alignment

 Oversight of two grant review boards including coordination with the City Clerk’s office, new member orientation, process support and meeting facilitation

 Administration of the online grants management system to include application development; follow up forms, evaluations and other templates while providing technical assistance to grantees, team staff and peer departments

Outreach & Engagement

 Organize information, deliver presentations and communicate effectively with media, elected officials, City staff, community partners and neighborhood representatives

 Serve as a liaison between residents, community partners and city departments to identify issues, develop partnerships and implement problem solving strategies.

 Expand outreach to new and diverse audiences to increase participation and broaden program resources and partnerships

 Provide as needed support to complementary programs including Neighborhood Training, Keep Charlotte Beautiful and the Mayor’s Mentoring Alliance.

Training & Promotion

 Plan, organize and facilitate related pre-application workshops

 Basic event planning functions as needed for staff-initiated programs including pre-application meetings and the annual NMG Bus Tour

 Attend evening and weekend meetings and events as needed

Educational Requirements, Skills and Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. An associate degree and equivalent work experience in a related field will also be considered.

A successful candidate would have demonstrated passion and be skilled in community organizing, capacity building, one on one relationship building, conflict management and experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously. Grant administration and working knowledge of government and/or non-profit resources is helpful, however not required.

Required Skills:

Creative and effective written and graphical presentation abilities, strong paper and digital organization skills, computer experience including Microsoft Office and Excel, ability to effectively multi-task, demonstrate good recollection and excellent customer service skills.
Bi or multi-lingual communication skills is a plus.

Salary Range: Up to $58,633
