Brookings, SD (pop. 23,773) is seeking an experienced, motivated, and innovative municipal executive to assist the community through a period of extensive growth and economic diversification. Located in an ideal setting, Brookings is the county seat and home to South Dakota State University. The city operates under a home rule charter Council-Manager form of government with an elected Mayor and six (6) city council members. Position supervises 138 FT employees and annual budget of $53.5 M. Requirements for this position include: Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, political science, or related field; minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible municipal government experience, including supervision and/or executive level management with at least two (2) years as manager/administrator, assistant manager/administrator, or general government administrator; and prior experience in municipal government operations, finance/budgeting, economic development, strategic planning, Council/staff relations, and personnel management. A combination of education, experience and training may be considered in lieu of degree requirement. Preferred qualifications include: Master’s degree in public administration or closely related field and ICMA Credentialed Manager designation. Expected hiring range is $130,000 - $160,000 with excellent benefit package to include car allowance and relocation assistance.
