The Opportunity
The City Manager serves as the top executive officer of the City and reports to the Mayor and Council. The new City Manager actively engages with the Council and senior leadership team to review and evaluate organizational initiatives and to facilitate strategies to proactively address issues, resolve problems, and promote organizational effectiveness. The successful candidate provides comprehensive management and leadership to ensure all City services and infrastructure are delivered in a creative, collaborative, equitable, sustainable, and effective manner.

Qualifications
The City Manager understands and appreciates public service, providing quality of life services and, above all, values a sense of community. Demonstrated, high-level managerial experience and the ability to work closely with elected officials is essential. An exceptional ability to develop effective partnerships is required. An understanding of economic development, land use, and planning is ideal. Labor relations experience with a history of supporting public safety services is essential. An appreciation for technology, data and analytics, and smart city initiatives is valuable. Prior experience working in a growing, diverse community is highly valued. Bilingual abilities are beneficial.

The successful candidate has a combination of skills and education that enable success as Hillsboro’s City Manager, such as a master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field, and 10 years related experience, including 5 years progressively responsible municipal management experience. The City Manager brings a broad and diverse background into public service, ideally a leadership role in a full-service City. The successful candidate embraces Hillsboro’s culture and adheres to and delivers on the values and mission of the City.
