Staunton City Manager

Located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, the City of Staunton is nestled between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. The City encompasses an area of 19.98 square miles with an estimated population of 24,500. The City is seeking a City Manager with a true desire and commitment to our vision ( and who values a culture of diversity, inclusion, history, the arts and a responsible and efficient government for citizens.

Functioning with a Council-Manager form of government, the Manager works with seven elected Council members. The City staff consists of 437 employees with a current budget of $113,686,192.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration or related field with a Master’s degree desired. Significant experience in municipal government with knowledge in a variety of department areas and functions is required. Experience in a working partnership with the public schools is a priority. The successful applicant must be an empowering manager, a proven leader, a creative problem solver, willing to think outside the box and an excellent communicator. A commitment to diversity, customer service and citizen involvement is required. Must be committed to continual development and learning.
