BUILDING INSPECTOR I/II

This recruitment is open until the position is filled or a sufficient number of applications have been reviewed to establish a qualified candidate pool.

Hourly Range:
Building Inspector I: $23.39 - $31.58
Building Inspector II: $27.12 - $36.62

This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Both levels
Requires the equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level courses in engineering, architecture or construction.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).

Work Experience:
Building Inspector I:
Requires two years of full time journey level building construction experience.

Building Inspector II:
Requires one year of increasingly responsible full time building inspection experience comparable to that of a Building Inspector I.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Certification, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Both levels
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Building Inspector I:
Possession of, or required to obtain within 12 months of hire, one of the following certifications from a recognized code publishing organization:

Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, Residential Combination Inspector, Commercial Combination Inspector, Reinforce Concrete Special Inspector, or Pre-Stressed Concrete Special Inspector..

Building Inspector II:
Possession of a Building Inspector Certification and possession of or required to obtain within 12 months of hire or promotion a second certification as listed below from a recognized code publishing organization:
Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, Combination Plans Examiner, Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner, Residential Combination Inspector, Commercial Combination Inspector, Reinforce Concrete Special Inspector, Pre-stressed Concrete Special Inspector, Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector, Structural Welding Special Inspector, or Structural Masonry Special Inspector.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of initial probationary period is contingent upon passing an FBI background investigation. Based on position, referred applicants may be subject to additional testing which may include pre-employment polygraph, physical and drug screening.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt – eligible for overtime compensation and/or compensatory time.
