Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Assistant Public Works Director will plan, organize, review and approve a variety of engineering plans, construction specifications and permits for various engineering and public works projects and will prepare contracts with consultant engineering firms for various engineering and public works projects for the Director's review. They are also responsible for advertising construction plans, reviewing submitted bids and recommending awards; inspecting construction sites for compliance, the review and research of traffic and transportation issues and related projects. They will also communicate with and assist the public, developers, engineers and others. They will also assist with the management of routine operations and maintenance of Fife's Public Works Infrastructure and will serve as Acting Public Works Director in the Director's absence.
Candidates may possess any combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field and five years of progressive experience in public works operations and capital project management, including oversight responsibility for public works field crews and direct experience working with consultants and contractors.
