In McLean County, the two Assistant County Administrators are appointed by and report directly to the County Administrator. In addition to providing guidance, oversight, and executive leadership to assigned departments and functions, the Assistant County Administrators assist the County Administrator in managing the financial operations of the County and developing strategic policy direction. The Assistant County Administrators may act as the County Administrator in their absence. It is therefore vital for the Assistant County Administrators to remain fully aware of all key issues, concerns, problems, philosophies, and the strategic direction of the County Administrator.
This position provides support to the County Board, provides financial analysis in the preparation and administration of the annual budget and assists in coordinating the functions of all County departments and agencies. The Assistant County Administrators are frequently assigned special, high priority projects by the County Administrator and may represent McLean County, the County Administrator, and the County Board on various boards, committees and organizations.

This position requires possession of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, public or business administration or a closely related area, preferably supplemented by a master’s degree in public administration; considerable progressively responsible public or private sector managerial experience (4-6 years) requiring the planning and execution of administrative operations, including three years of progressively responsible experience in public administration and budget analysis or any equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful candidate must have strong knowledge of budgeting, excellent analytical skills and outstanding interpersonal/communicative skills. The selected individual must have a collaborative style and be able to develop consensus. The person in this position needs to have the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks and the ability to maintain effective working relationships while working with a broad range of inputs.
