Community Development Director

City of Neptune Beach, FL

Directs and manages activities of the Community Development Department related to the comprehensive and community planning, building, zoning, sustainability, economic development, code enforcement, and includes extensive public contact and communication with Residents, Visitors, investors, and with the Community Development (Design) Board for the City of Neptune Beach.

This is a highly responsible professional, managerial, and technical position reporting directly to the City Manager. Work involves responsibility for planning, assigning, and supervising the work of the department’s staff. Work requires the use of considerable judgment, technical acumen, initiative, professional knowledge and involves responsibility for making a wide range of technical decisions. Managing projects related to departmental activities, oral and written presentations before the Community Development (Design) Board, City Council, and Committees are also primary responsibilities of the Director.

The Community Development Director is expected to collaborate with other Department Heads and must be capable of working effectively and diplomatically with City Staff, City Council, Resident and Business Groups, regulatory bodies, developers, contractors, and other governmental agencies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration or in a closely related field.

Three years in planning and/or Community Development is required with experience in coastal communities highly desirable. Preferred candidates will have experience leading and managing a team.

Experience and knowledge of GIS databases and applications is desirable.

Must be proficient in the operation of a PC, with background in Word and Excel required.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

Must possess a current, valid drivers’ license in the State of Florida.

AICP Certification preferred.
