The Police Chief is responsible for protecting lives and property in the City through the administration and direction of all police functions, including patrol, investigation and support activities. Under little to no direct supervision, performs highly responsible administrative and professional police work directing the operations of the City Police Department. The Chief of Police is also responsible for creating and administering the department budget, and monitoring expenditures; and for attending meetings and public gatherings to explain the activities of the police department and to cultivate favorable public relations. Employee must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment to ensure proper administration of departmental programs and operations. Employee must also exercise tact, courtesy and fairness in frequent contact with the public. This position serves as an integral member of the City Leadership Team and is expected to perform in both leadership and management capacities. Reports to the City Manager.
Our ideal candidate will have a four-year college or university with major course work in police administration, public administration, criminal justice, political science, or a related field; a Master’s Degree is preferred.
