Assistant City Manager

The City of Williamsburg is looking for its next Assistant City Manager. This crucial position has been vacant since 2018, when the Assistant City Manager was appointed City Manager. The Assistant Manager will serve as a member of the City’s Executive Team and will be responsible for managing the operations and planning for the organization of 217 FTEs. The Executive Team consists of the department heads, office directors, and the Housing Authority Executive Director. The Assistant Manager will work collaboratively with the City Manager to supervise departmental efforts. The position will have the specific responsibility for:

1. managing strategic planning projects, the public portal that tracks this work, and the associated performance measure

2. spearheading assigned special projects, serving as a convener, idea generator, and facilitator from initiation to completion

3. leading the City’s legislative effort by drafting a legislative agenda, convening a legislative briefing, interacting with special interest groups, the Virginia General Assembly, and the U.S. Congress

4. overseeing contracts for services such as grant writing and grant performance requirements

The position offers a salary range of $107,000 to $150,000, depending on qualifications and subject to
negotiation, as well as an excellent benefits package. Relocation expenses are available.
