The City of Covington is a growing vibrant city with a population of 40,000+. Covington borders the Ohio River and a bridge away from Cincinnati, Ohio. Covington has a large urban core that is welcomingly diverse in all aspects of our city. Our City serves residents from the urban, historic, and suburban communities as well as many large corporations. Our citizens are activity engaged in our city government individually and through local neighborhood associations.

We are seeking a candidate who shares the City’s values of accountability, integrity, transparency, and honoring the public trust. The City Clerk must possess the leadership, collaboration, and excellent customer service skills to effectively complete the tasks of the position. The candidate must be able to work well with others and have a keen ability to mediate and negotiate appropriate solutions to difficult and sensitive situations. The candidate must be able to embrace and promote change, as this position will be instrumental when leading the City towards emerging trends in municipal records keeping and office management while maintaining legal and ethical standards and best practices. The candidate must persistent, motivated, an effective communicator, organized and able to mentor staff and must have extensive knowledge records management and modern public sector practices and technologies.

Core duties include: Management of the City Clerk’s office and staff. The preparation for alternating weekly caucus and legislative meetings. This preparation includes collecting agenda request items from various departments in the city in preparation of caucus and legislative meetings. This would include preparing legislation, document copies, preparing commission packets and distribution per State statutes. The City Clerk is the official custodian of the City’s official records, contracts, and public documents which includes the storing and management of such files. In addition to current document retention process this position will play a lead role in assisting in the digitalization of all records, which includes involvement in the technology selection and implementation process.
