The City of Siloam Springs is seeking qualified candidates for the position of full-time Police Chief. This is a professional and administrative position that is responsible for effective enforcement of laws, ordinance planning, organizing and directing activities of the Siloam Springs Police Department and Detention Facility. The Chief of Police works under the direction of the City Administrator and is governed by department policy, law enforcement procedures as well as state and federal laws. This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Police Department. Implements, ensures and interprets policies and procedures as well as develops and administers policies and procedures. Establishes training programs, monitors performance and establish disciplinary procedures. Interviews and hires new personnel. Plans and implements Department goals and objectives. Responsible for coordinating law enforcement services with other law enforcement agencies regarding new programs, special department activities and law enforcement procedures. Assumes management responsibility and oversees the establishment, planning and supervising of all PD. Prepares and coordinates Department reports for City Board meetings and work sessions. Attends City Board meetings, public hearings, and related proceedings to represent the Department. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States and possess a valid driver’s license. Ten year’s progress experience in law enforcement with a least five (5) years of supervisory and managerial experience, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, political science, public administration, or related field; or a combination of training and experience. Certified as a Law Enforcement Officer by State of Arkansas, or ability to achieve same through reciprocity within six (6) months of hiring. Advance law enforcement management or executive development schooling such as the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute, FBI National Academy, Police Executive Research Forum, Senior Management Institute, or similar school is desirable. Incumbent members who are deemed capable and routinely act in the capacity of Police Chief, may be regarded as having met the minimum qualifications through equivalency.
