Job Description

City Administrator, Belle Plaine, Iowa. (Population - 2,534). Progressive community in east central Iowa, located at the junction of County Road E-66 & Iowa Highway 21, and just north of Interstate 80 in Benton County, is seeking an energetic leader for the position of city administrator.

Salary range will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position also includes a full range of benefits. The city administrator directly oversees the following municipal departments: city hall, wastewater, water, streets, parks & recreation, police, code enforcement, airport, zoning, and finance, which includes 13 full time employees and an annual operating budget of $4.0 million.

The city administrator is also responsible for supervision of contracts, oversight of city property, management of capital improvement projects, and keeping the five member city council and mayor full advised of the city's financial condition and overall future needs.

Qualifications include four year college degree in public administration or business administration or related field and two or more years of experience in a public sector management position, with an emphasis on city finance, budget development, labor relations, strategic planning, grant writing, and housing development.
